Hello all!

“Room 101" said the officer.
The man's face, already very pale, turned a color Winston would not have believed possible. It was definitely, unmistakably, a shade of green. " (From Orwell's 1984)

Don't let Room 101 scare you too much, you're free to ask me questions or use this space to discuss all things Mme. Katorga or things you've read on my Tumblr blog.

I'll be posting my blog updates and other bits and details & travel plans right here. Feel free to post new topics, I'll just crush them under my boot heels if I don't find them appropriate.

wink Welcome to one and all.....

What is in Room 101? The worst thing in the world.

But that is certainly not Madame!

It's great to see you Étienne!

I will be changing the name of my forum to something other than Room 101 before we go live, for that very quote! Still, in my opinion, we should all face our worst fears at some time or other, that way they can't be used against us.

Let me at least pull the quote from Orwell that probably started my odd connection between his works and my kinks?

" But always — do not forget this, Winston — always there will be the intoxication of power, constantly increasing and constantly growing subtler. Always, at every moment, there will be the thrill of victory, the sensation of trampling on an enemy who is helpless. If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face — forever." From 1984

"How does one man assert his power over another, Winston?"
Winston thought. "By making him suffer," he said.

1984 is a book that has resonated with me since I read it 35 years ago. I keep a copy handy at all times.

Thank you for the welcome, Madame. I am delighted to be here!

Reverently,

Étienne

Perhaps "The Ministry of Love." would be a good name. ;-)

Ah yes, it's such a great quote and so very true - whether you take it in the tyrannical context or the kink context, it works for me.

You inspired me to do the math - I first read 1984 30 years ago. It's been with me a long time and on further readings I've always enjoyed finding some other little element that I view differently in the now than I did upon first reading.

Have you seen this cover for it? It's delightfully pulp.

What a cover! I had not seen that; thank you! I wonder if people found the little bit of sex in 1984 to live up to the promise of the cover? Maybe they did; sex was even more taboo then in mainstream literature, I think.

Reverently,

Étienne

Hi, MK-

I remember reading it in 1983 and thinking how I had gotten a jump on things by doing so. Ah, kids.

AH, but did you like the Eurythmics song about it, Regan? That is the question!

I idolized her as a youth, and I still think she's just the coolest of ladies.
